I met Joe Manus at the spring 2001 International Home Furnishing Market at High Point, N.C. His show space was small and unassuming but it was the most the buzz of the show. The rocking bed is what everyone was raving about and to my pleasant surprise the rocking bed was all and more that people had talked about. After talking to Joe for less than a minute I could tell this guy was very real and very serious about his work. The craftsmanship only back up his passioned approach to furniture. Joe does not seem like a furniture your average or typical show attendee. He represents an alternative approach and and can be considered a spearhead inventor into the recently popularized green furniture market. If you can not tell from this blog, Simply Austin ethos is green. We recycle all shipping waste and carry various green lines to reflect a common good. As show attendees we also partake in the green design events and ask the hard questions to our manufactures so that we can be knowledgeable with our well informed customers. Recent advances to green the manufacturing industry domestically and abroad are focus around materials but Joe epitomize radical material management. Dozens of manufactures use textiles with recycled content and some are exclusively recycled. Fewer are organic certified, mostly for the chemical sensitive market. All wood in the US has to be certified before cutting and virtually all used in manufacturing is provided by either the FSC of the SFI. Made in America means made responsibly. Joe has taken the alternative approach to recycling and actually uses items that can upcycled. Most of his materials are industrial not consumer based and are practically new. He produces heirloom quality furniture that is for the modern customer. Please check out his site to find more information. Simply Austin is now a stocking dealer and will soon receive our first order.Check back for more updates. Comments03/13/2012 23:37
